Teen Lab at the Art Institute of Chicago
Quintin Black, Staci Jackson
Performing an original poem about race relations created by Teen Lab member Staci Jackson, the teens worked together to produce an accompanying “quiz” asking museum patrons to decipher different stereotypical physical traits from different races. The larger question being: does it really matter what color our skin is?
Staci's Poem
This is intended to be a good poem , supposedly
A poem about togetherness and the greatness of diversity
A poem about forgiveness to the past
Because that's what it's supposed to be
But how are they forgiven when I still live with this curse in me
How are you okay when you're around them
But have to hide your kids and purse with me
They're famous all year around
But it takes a specific month for you to notice me
I don't get it seems as if we're all the same
Just with different features
Learning all the same things
Just with different teachers
Martin Luther tried to wake us
But I guess we still some dreamers
Equality is a fantasy
Trying to get back to reality
It's like a game that you play and it's based on the history of your family
Everybody want to win , trying to get to first place
But the only way you'll win is by the color of your face
But I don't get it , I thought we were all human race
