Amara "Rebel Betty" Martín is a second-generation Puerto Rican artist, educator and organizer born and raised in Chicago. Rebel's community and art work revolve around creating safe spaces for expression and learning that is intergenerational and elevates the voices and histories of the most marginalized communities.
Rebel has worked with youth, parents and the larger community of Chicago through art, popular education and mobilizing for social justice issues. Rebel has worked as an autonomous organizer for four years and has partnered with different organizations to provide art-based educational opportunities and workshops including Elevarte, Teen Lab at the Art Institute, Young Cultural Stewards, Enlace Chicago, Son Y Arte, and more.
Program Assistant
Valeria Alejandra Stutz is an emerging educator interested in building community through conversation and art-making. She was born in Argentina and moved to the United States at age six. She has experienced and understands art as a way to further healing, de-colonial understandings, and story-telling.
Valeria recently graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Geographical Studies and Romance Languages and Literature. Her senior thesis was about the role of the Obama Presidential Center in the displacement of Woodlawn neighborhood residents and the consequent activism of community organizations. She has interned in the Learning and Public Engagement and Curatorial departments at the Art Institute of Chicago and Museum of Contemporary Art, respectively.
