Teen Lab at the Art Institute of Chicago
YOLLOLAB
During a Wednesday session in November, we took a bus to Pilsen and visited YolloLab, a community arts space connected to the youth organization Yollocalli Art Reach from the National Museum of Mexican Art.
Located in Barrett Park, it is run by practicing and teaching artists Sarita García and Joseph Josué Mora, who provide and coordinate free materials, drop-in studio hours, and workshops for youth and adults to make art, share resources and knowledge with each other, and build community.
Teen Lab apprentices made small paper books during a workshop led by practicing and teaching artist Hope Wang, and heard about the paths that Sarita and Joseph took as they became educators and artists.
