Teen Lab at the Art Institute of Chicago
What's your artist statement?
I enjoy making art because it's a way for me to express what I feel has importance to me in a form that no words can. When I make art I do it with a purpose , to fufill the simple desire I have to do so. My passion for art whether I feel motivated or not is always present . Initially I had a strong passion for making still life influenced paintings or drawings and a lot of artwork around my appreciation for nature. Although lately I have found myself basing my art on issues I feel society is conflicted about and I am conflicted about. I recognize that I will always be developing/growing as an artist and so these concepts may change from time to time or I might just end up elaborating on them. Art is a wide realm of infinite passion.
What does "art" mean to you?
Art means reflecting a visual/spoken representation of something from your mind.
Has Teen Lab helped you grow as an artist?
Teen Lab has taught me that art is an urgency in these times to make change in a world that continues to be molded by humans from generation to generation. Teen Lab is a community that shows you that its okay to express how you feel, but do it in a way in which you offend no one. To be open to new ideas and take on and try new formats to represent your concepts through art. It provides exposure to a little bit of vaguely every form of art. I would definitely say that as an artist you are certainly taught to be more versatile.
