HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

I would describe my work as controversial but also very personal. It describes the world around me and that is going on at the time, so it's influenced by politics and by social media. it's also very vibrant and brings in a lot of bright colors and textures.

HOW HAS OUR SEMESTER THEME IMPACTED YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE?

Public art has definitely come into my daily art practice and inspired the art that Im working on now a lot. Many of the places we visited, particularly when we traveled to Pilsen, I was inspired by and fell in love with the murals. It has also opened my eyes to other art forms and ways I can expand my artwork and thought process.

WHAT THEMES OR SYMBOLS REAPPEAR IN YOUR BODY OF WORK?

I mostly sketch and paint, sometimes with watercolor. My culture also shines through in subtle ways and bold ways, things like henna designs, sacred patterns and rituals. Sometime that also comes up is my ethnicity, where I was born and raised versus where my parents were born.

WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?

Teen Lab is a safe space, a place to come and feel relaxed with others that have a similar appreciation for art. Teen Lab is a place to learn and experience things that you may never have experienced before.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER TEEN LAB?

I want to be a lawyer, but I want to get a degree in art while trying to be a lawyer. I think art will always have a big part of my life no matter how far I try to move away from it. For now, I am going to stick to taking art classes and learning more about art, really just perfecting my craft and my style. Hopefully I will see the vision and figure out what to do very soon.
