Get To Know Me: Horizon

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

Light hearted, I mostly draw in a cartoon, illustration style. It's what I get the most joy out of drawing.

HOW HAS OUR SEMESTER THEME IMPACTED YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE?

It gives me a better perspective on how people see the world, because usually public art comes from how someone views something or is about what is important to them, and can be interpreted publicly by other people. So I think that's pretty cool.

WHAT THEMES OR SYMBOLS REAPPEAR IN YOUR BODY OF WORK?

I like to portray pre-existing characters in my own style, I like to work with characters from my childhood and shows that I watch. I also like to draw my own characters, that come from songs. I will listen to a song and develop a story but think 'I should develop a character for this song!' Sometimes I will think of a prompt and things will spark because of that. Let's say that I watch a show, I will make a character inspired by that show.

WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?

Teen Lab is a place where I can feel confident, when I'm at home it's not the best so when I am here it keeps my mind off of it. I like to sit down and draw and express myself but not feel that I'm wasting time by doing so.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER TEEN LAB?

I want to major in animation. I've always wanted to make things that would be entertaining to people because a lot of things that inspire my work comes from entertainment, so I want to do that too and make something that people will remember and enjoy. If I can, I will minor in sequential art.
