HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

My artwork is based on a lot of people and places that I am inspired by. Basically I base it off of the real world instead of an envisioned world, I think theres a lot of beauty in what is already there. So instead of painting or drawing my conception of what I want something to look like, I like to paint and draw what I see it as because I think that what I see with my own eyes is already so beautiful and amazing. It's like note-taking, visually.

HOW HAS OUR SEMESTER THEME IMPACTED YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE?

When we see public art, we sometimes judge it. We forget what art is really about, it's not just what we see with our own eyes but also the underlying meaning. And sometimes we judge it if it is considered taboo or inappropriate, so we make a face and walk away instead of admiring it for what it could mean. So it makes me think about my own art, is it appropriate for public view, so I think about that a lot. But then again, I make what I want.

WHAT THEMES OR SYMBOLS REAPPEAR IN YOUR BODY OF WORK?

I think, I stick to drawing portraits and scenery. When I draw portraits, I usually draw people that I know and admire-- so celebrity's or friends and family. So a couple years ago, I created this project where I drew everyone in my grade. It was a lot of hard work, but what I liked about it was getting to know everyone's faces and admiring what is already there. Everyone's face is so different but when you put them together, it's one whole collective artwork.

WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?

Teen Lab is an open space where artists can come together and share their art and you don't feel ashamed of what you draw. We all draw differently and make different things but we never look at it and say 'Oh, what did you make?' No. We admire it and wonder what went on in your mind but not in a negative way. There's a shared mindset of artist, we just admire what we se with our own eyes.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER TEEN LAB?

Personally, I really like art and want to pursue it but I'm not sure where this path leads so I have been falling back on my interest in psychology. Like I mentioned, drawing people is like my note-taking, putting people into a different representation that isn't just based on how they look but also their personalities and stuff.
