Teen Lab at the Art Institute of Chicago
Get To Know Me: Delijha
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?
My work is based around a lot of geometric and organic shapes mixed together. I do a lot of graffiti style work, using words of wisdom and use that to express my feelings, I used to draw cartoons, but I got into graffiti because I wanted to try it out.
HOW HAS OUR SEMESTER THEME IMPACTED YOUR ARTISTIC PRACTICE?
It gives me the chance to show Chicago what I can do. When people see graffiti they think something negatively or consider it vandalizing, but it's not any of that it's my artwork and what I think of the world.
WHAT THEMES OR SYMBOLS REAPPEAR IN YOUR BODY OF WORK?
Gold, the color gold always comes into my art work. I also like to show something that looks to be regular at first but is actually very irregular. Im working on a diamond flower, and that isnt something you would typically see-- you would usually see a circular or organic shape in the middle where the polyp is. But for this project I am using a diamond shape and painting it gold.
WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?
Teen Lab means that I am getting more experience, meeting new people and seeing their artwork and perspective on art. And having fun, getting into what I want to do without being interrupted.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS AFTER TEEN LAB?
I want to go to college to be a cardiac surgeon, and I got into art because I like it but I know that it's going to be something I want to study too. Plus, when you're a surgeon you need a steady hand and I think art can help that too.
