Get To Know Me: Fhatiha

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

My artistic style is more comic like, more political, very rooted in who I am and the countries I come from. In my art I use a lot of political ideas and things that would cause conflict. It's also very personal, I always leave a piece of me in my art-- its either something very small that no one might notice or it might be the whole piece itself.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?

Anything, mostly everyday life, seeing people from different countries, the news, and my family. But it's mostly other people. Random people on the train that I see or people from school, it could be anything.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS? DOES IT START WITH A SKETCH, A PHOTO, OR AN IDEA?

Usually I start with sketches, a quick 5 minute sketch of placement and where I want everything to be. It's never a definitive sketch, my first sketch is never going to be what it will look like so along the way I'll add small things or change some things.

WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?

It's a space to create and it's kind of like a family. It's something I look forward to everyday, coming here makes my day, I know I can get through school just to come here. It's very important to me and forces me to create new things, so when I'm on my own and have artistic blocks I'll just stop painting or stop drawing but when I come to Teen Lab it forces me to create new ideas and that helps me become a better artist.
