Get To Know Me: Noor

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?

I often see myself using a lot of lines, black and white, and filling up space in general because I have trouble realizing that negative space is okay. What I see the most often in my art is where I am from, I leave it as a broad question on purpose because it can take so many forms. I see my personality in my work, sometimes I use vibrant colors when I'm feeling happy or vice versa when I'm sad. I definitely see my neighborhood as a big inspiration for my work because I love the urban aspect of it.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?

My family and where I go to school. I feel that I go to a school where I am underrepresented so art is a big creative outlet for me to express how I am feeling or whenever I feel like I don't have a voice at school. And when I do showcase my art I feel it can be very powerful and give me closure for those times when I didn't speak when I wanted to.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS? DOES IT START WITH A SKETCH, A PHOTO, OR AN IDEA?

I often see myself sketching a lot, ironically it's always on my school work and I think that inspires me when working in class. Drawing really helps me to focus so as I'm doodling I am still listening to my teacher. Usually when I look back at these doodles it inspires me to create something bigger than that or something based off of that sketch.

WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?

Teen Lab is a really safe space where everyone can express themselves and I found a lot of people that use art as an outlet in the same way that I do. Although we do have this similarity, we have differences and it's so fun and beautiful to see all these different types of artwork being produced. It's pretty dope!
