Teen Lab at the Art Institute of Chicago
Get To Know Me: Jonathan
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE?
My style is more towards realism, I like going into detail and taking time to make things look perfect. What pops up in my work a lot is space, it's really fascinating because of it's potential and beauty. It's like the sky is not the limit because there's more to that.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO CREATE?
My feelings motivate me. If I'm in a specific mood or whats happening around me, art is how I tell the story of what I'm feeling. The future also motivates me because I want to see myself grow by creating and see the progress from that growth.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS? DOES IT START WITH A SKETCH, A PHOTO, OR AN IDEA?
Usually the first thing to pop into my mind and how I can emphasize it. If the task has a deep meaning or a question I'm trying to answer, I'll emphasize that more but it's typically the first thing to pop into my head and I go from there.
WHAT DOES TEEN LAB MEAN TO YOU?
It's an opportunity to do something I enjoy and be around people that like the same things I do. It's really amazing when you work with people throughout your city, because the city is so big, working with the few individuals that relate to you and doing things that you enjoy. It's an environment where you can explore yourself and express it.
