Fall Semester Day 1

Checking out the view of Millennium Park from the studio

The Fall has arrived, and that means Teen Lab is back in session! We are excited to announce the introduction of our Lead Instructor, Reginald Eldridge, (RJ), who brings his artistic practice as a writer, poet, painter, and more, to the TL team. This semester’s theme is “Time,” both in its literal and metaphorical forms.

"We chose this theme for several reasons," RJ explains. "In our culture, time is a conscious and unconscious preoccupation. Whether debating our place in history, speculating on the future, beating the alarm clock to wake up in the morning, or considering the limitations of a single life, our lives are infused with considerations of temporal nature. This semester, we encouraged our Teen Labbers to make work that explores the contours of time in relation to their own experiences. Work that appears in this show ranges from investigations of personal memory to speculations on time as a deity, from poetic re-imaginings of the past to philosophical meditations on the meaning of time. We hope you enjoy it."

Speaking of time...

EveryTIME (yes, there will be plenty of puns and eye-rollers throughout the semester), we meet for TL, RJ will start us off with a "check-in." To get a feel for where everyone is at— in other words, what kind of mood and energy each of us brings to the table on any given day, the check-in begins with a self-reflection:

On a scale from zero to ten, zero being the worst day you've ever had, and ten being the best, which number best reflects the type of day you're having?

Next comes the question of the day. A teen comes up with a non yes or no question and we each have a chance to answer it. For example, todays question was posed by Malaika, who asked:

What's the weirdest or most memorable dream you've ever had?

The responses were hilarious, strange, and scary... but rather than trying to describe everyone's dreams, we instead throw the question back to you, the reader!

How would you have answered Malaika's question?

Check back in soon for more updates!

For now, CHECK OUT!
